THE BOOK OF

by Rachel S.

It was early in the morning of the eleventeenth day, and the spleen gods realized that there was a void. The force was incomplete. There was an unfulfilled want that could not be remedied. So Inky said to Blinky, what shall we do to the things that never were! Pinky realized that if the aforesaid things ever became things that are, they would fall under another category, but it was Blinky's genius that called to attention the fact that they don't exist yet, and maybe they never will. There was much debate over the number of new gods that should be created. There were those who thought that there should be two new gods, one for things that never were and someday will be, and another for things that never were and someday won't be. But in the end it was decided that there was not enough space in the world for two gods of that much power (for both categories are so greatly large.) Since the ethics of creation of new gods had already been perfected, the focus of this new addition became the issue of a name. Earlier in time, the gods had decided to give every new god a fitting name, so they realized that they must give this new god, the god of things that never were, a fitting name. The first name, put on the table for discussion by Blinky was Nothing, but the others rejected it immediately on account of its unoriginality. Pinky suggested Gnithon, but for some unthinkable reason, that, too, seemed boring. After several moments more than four days of pondering, Inky announced that the new name should be __________. Although it was considered the best yet, it was still unfitting because it had been mentioned. What the gods failed to realize was that whenever they had an idea, or even a spark, glimmer, spark of a glimmer, glimmer of a spark or spark of a glimmer of a spark of an idea, it was too late. It was out there and could never be a thing that never was again. The gods, who were said to know all, didn't realize that any of these names could work. They would have been okay because once they had been thunk, they had become things that never were things that never were. But as stated, this was beyond the mental capability.
